The roastery opened in 2016 and has found a strong niche with private label coffee, co-packing and toll roasting for cold brew companies. Madary hasn’t looked back. He rarely has time. “Our facility roasted 800,0000 pounds of coffee last year and we are now on a pace to roast more than a million pounds. We’ve decided to install an additional very large roaster later this year that will essentially double our capacity.”
NCF co-founder Kevin Richards sees Delicious Sips as a hidden jewel in local coffee production. “Having a roaster like Delicious Sips is great because they are so versatile. That seems to be their key to success in co-packing, they can accomplish a wide variety of roasting or blending services and keep production costs low and efficient. This is the kind of behind-the-scenes coffee industry expertise that the public seldom sees. However because coffee volume is so large at the Port of New Orleans, our region has a number of these industrial coffee businesses in our backyard.”
“We do everything from big bulk roasting to packaging in traditional 12 oz and one-pound bags to fulfilling frac packs which are sized for individual coffee pot batches. We handle sourcing the green coffee, store it as needed and then roast and grind it to customer specifications” explains Madaray. “We see a strong emerging category in cold brew coffee and cold coffee concentrates. It used to be the cold brew companies used very low quality coffee beans. Now, they see the value in pursuing better flavor. That means they use better coffee beans and want a better roasting process. We can do that for them. We know how to properly de-gas for cold extraction. We provide roasted coffee that is ready to steep and cold brew customers love that option. There is a strong demand for our cold brew services.”
